PS Axle removal assitance

I'm in the process of removing the pass side axle and it seems to be seized in the carrier. Any suggestions for loosening. I have covered it now in PB and I have hammered on it with a large steel punch. Hasn't even budged and I have already broken off one of the 3 lobes on the axle that the 12mm bolts thread into.

Tried removing the bracket from the block so you can work on it off the vehicle?

I've used a wide screw driver to try and rotate the axle within the carrier bearing first to help break up any corrosion that locked it into place. Then I used a pry bar and worked it between the carrier bracket and one of the bolt lobes to try and build a gap. Heating up the carrier bracket might help too...but be very careful since you used a bit of PB blaster. It takes some coaxing to get it out and a bit of patience.

The other option is to remove the driver side axle (which is it's own bit of fun in itself, a well place pry bar will get it), and use something to hammer the passenger axle from the driver side.

I know on 4th gens there is a bar keeping you from doing this unless you have LSD.
I'm sure there's a name for it, but I'm going with bar.

I had someone tell me to do this on my girl's automatic and no go, but my LSD goes all the way through and a broom handle or something might have worked.

I never had much luck with PB. But soaking it in lube, torching it a bit (torches are always your friend) and using a pry bar or chisel to catch the edge and hammer it off works.

It was a *****, but I've done one before like that seized as all hell.

I'll let it soak tonight and try some heat tomorrow.

I used an air hammer in to carve out a gap. It has saved me many times. This is the one I have: http://www.harborfreight.com/air-imp...kit-92037.html

Crap, I forgot about that. The last time I used this method was on my 4th gen with a VLSD.

All good. Thanks for the suggestions.

An air chisel, PB Blaster and a whole lot of patience were what was needed.
