Catback

OK, so I'll probably take some *&^% for this but what is the definition of "catback". I always thought that it was the exhaust system behind the last cat but my neighbor who is a real mechanic says that it includes the cats.

From the outlet of the cat converter back.
Some people half-*** it and get an axle-back exhaust (for the sound, won't do much more than that)
You can also go with a headers-back exhaust

Simply put, the entire assembly from after your catalytic converter to the tips of your exhaust pipe.

I agree with these guys. On every car forum I'm on, that's the understanding when talking about a catback.

Thanks all - as I thought but I've been known to be wrong before. I thought that I'd take some grief for a basic question. My neighbor did make a compelling argument for including the cats in "catback".
