Projector Retrofit
Projector Retrofit
Hello,
I recently bought a Mini D2S 3.0 Projector kit from TRS for my 2002 Nissan Maxima SE.
I need help, Has anyone done or can guide me to where to find this specific retrofit on these headlamps? I'm worried about what to cut, how to position and attach the projectors.(videos or specific instructions would be gladly appreciated)
Thank you.

you should talk to chrisman, about having him help you for a fee, or search for a how to on the basics. Not sure if you are gonna find an exact how to for your exact scenario, but you should be able to find a more universal one.
Every projectors have different shape and form. Measure the projector height from the bulb holder and compare them to the bowl depth to see if you are hitting the front lens. Use depth gage or Caliper to do this. Personally, Mini on 5.5th, even if they are one of the shortest projectors around, it still sticks out too much. There are several ways to attach your projector, all of which need drill to cut the reflector housing. Start with drilling 4 holes on the reflector, run the screws from the Mini mountingpoints to the holes and see if the projector is sticking out too far ( it will ). From here, you take make a round cut in the middle of the reflector bowl. Small step at the time till you have your projector not sticking too much to your liking.

1- The projector is only going to attached by the four mounting points only, what about the rear lock nut?
2- If I have to put the projector deep, what's going to happen to the rear of the headlamp? Am I able to seal the back with the oem cap, or what should I do?
You don't use the rear lock nut. I guess the idea is to mount the projector to the reflector by any means. You can use the rear lock nut, but you would need to drill the center hole on the reflector since it is made for D2R bulb not H4 halogen. Even if you can use the rear lock nut, the Mini D2S still sticks out pretty far that you might interfere with the front lens.
Well, the ability to seal the back cap depends on how deep you mount the projectors. You can make an extension that would allow you to use rubber cap from TRS. Check out my build thread, I have several examples of these...

Thanks for all that helpful information, I have last questions(hopefully
).
1- How far from the front lens do you consider a safe distance to mount the projectors?(I will be using 55w hid setup)
Also, I have seen these quad projectors and all that, so now I'm wondering if I should also do that to the High beams? *(The choice is Keeping in mind that it's spending the less money possible and buying something that's the easier to mount and worth doing)*
2- Now the question is, Should I:
A) Just put in Dummy projectors and shrouds ? , Why?
B) Buy GENERIC H1 BI-XENON PROJECTORS ?, Why?
C) Buy the BOSCH "E46" PROJECTORS ? , Why?
D) Buy the "B STOCK" MORIMOTO MH1 6.0 PROJECTORS?, Why?
Thank you.

2. You should only do what you need, not what everyone is doing. If you want to do quad, do it with different color bulb (4300K and 3000k). Quad projectors setup is pretty complex. A good dual bi-xenon projectors are more than enough IMO.
a. Why bother putting dummy projector if it doesn't work.
b-c. Generic Bi-X and Mini are pretty much the same. The E46 Bi-X has better high beam but the low beam is not as good as the Mini. Again depend on what you need. I would put halogen high beam projector on the high beam slot and dedicated low beam or bi-xenon on low beam. Be prepare to cut the reflector housing to the max and by the time you do this, it becomes pretty weak.
