sunroof driving me nuts!

My 02 Max sunroof is driving me nuts! It opens on its on at least once a day and I've even seen it open after I shut the car off and locked the door! I did the reset procedure many times...that is when the tilt button decides to work. But it doesn't do anything for my problem. I never use the sunroof and just want to disable it. Is there a fuse or something this non mechanically inclined guy can yank out to stop this insanity??!

The rainy season is just around the corner here in Hawaii!!

Thanks

Just disconnect the switch, that's what I did with mine. There's a single screw inside the sunglass holder. Remove it, pull down the console, disconnect the switch, replace console. No more phantom sun-roof opening!

Mine hasn't opened on me since.

I have the same issue as well..the random opens and tilts. It may be easier to access a fuse perhaps than open the top console if you choose to disable it.

Do I need to disconnect the battery while doing this? and do you just leave whatever wires you disconnect hanging there bare? Is that safe? sorry like I said I'm not mechanically inclined....want to do it right and not blow up my car or get shocked! haha

I did not disconnect the battery when I disconnected my switch. You'll be unplugging a connector from a harness so it won't be "bare" wires just hanging. I tucked both ends into the roof away from anything. You can cover them with electrical tape if you're really worried about it.

Ok so I found a replacement sunroof switch on Ebay. Is this thing very difficult to change out?

I can't imagine it would be very difficult to replace. Follow my instructions above to disconnect the switch but before you replace the console, swap the switch out. I'm not sure if the switch is screwed or clipped into the console but it should be pretty easy to remove.

I found a tutorial on how to replace the sunroof switch. I also disconnected the switch for now until the new one arrives. Thanks guys!

OK I'm begining to think there is a ghost in my car! Even after I disconnected the sunroof switch the tilt button still opened on its own but would not close. So I had to reconnect everything and fool around with the slide until it was completely closed.

Am I missing something? the diagram in the link above says to disconnect the map light as well as the sunroof switch. I didn't do this because I figured it was just for the light. is the map light connected somehow to the tilt button?

new switch coming in next week and all this madness should be over....i hope!

just an FYI....yes you do have to disconnect both the slider and the map light connections. The new switch arrived yesterday and it was very easy to replace. 2 screws and it was finished. No more possessed sunroof!
