option / alternate / cheap : Cabin air filter

After looking around for a bit, not long, couldn't find a good carbonated cabin air filter for under $36. Not being convinced that I couldn't do better I did some sleuthing and found one that was a perfect fit (I like it tight) at WallyWorld for $16.94.. and here are the pics..

found it is a GM filter, cross reference numbers are:
CF8392A P3720 AF1064 CAF7706

and I saw them from $6-$17 instead of the maxima/I30 pricing of $36-$48. Takes a minimal bit of squeezing to get the cover on, but as the picture shows not enough to bulge the cover. Good luck.

Hell of a deal. I paid $36 at napa 2 weeks ago...where did you find this for $6 but didint buy that instead of wally worlds price? Thanks for showing us this!

Also if i add my 2 cents to this overall. To ANYONE buying a used car (maxima or not) I am now convinced that a cabin filter (if equipped) should be amongst the first few things a new owner should look and replace if necessary. I just chose to peek into mine with the intent of washing it and reusing the oem as Nissan states...well...
It came out with difficulty. I have pics of my old; it would make your stomach turn...a huge wad of what looked like a nesty hairball....
The first month i had the newly bought used maxima i always felt like i had allergies "in" the car...well to my surprise a damn mouse/rat!!? Had built a little comfy nest in the blower/dash area. Who knows wtf i had been breathing in first month. (im alive and well still
Mouse had a furry little nest built in there. It was disgusting; to confirm a mouse I found dropping under the Engine cover as well.
Now with that said and out there: i cant be the only one thats ever incurred this. All your NY NJ ppl should know what im referring to....

Wait a second. So you initially paid $16.94 but later found them from $6-$17?

I just found this for $15...

Rabbit (or anyone really), do you still have the original filters? If so, could I trouble you to measure them for me to the nearest 1/16th inch? Can't find any dimensions using the search function. Thanks.

filter was 7" tall and about 11" long, ideally the stock should be about 10.75" long, but I got it to fit fine. I found the $6 ones on ebay but they are paper without carbon. Walmart had this in stock, I always buy local when doing this "engineering type" stuff in case I have to return it, lol.

Oh and my filter was MIA, so had to go off of the cavity in the box, and I prefer to make it snug in the box.

some quick research led me to this: http://www.amazon.com/Purolator-C161.../dp/B004A3BW3C

apparently that is a purolator filter that goes for $26 on amazon and $36 at advance auto: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/p...12c/10162644-P

if it indeed is a genuine purolator "breathe easy" filter it's a good deal. Reviews are hit or miss with that seller though, just hit walmart, lol.
