2000 Maxima GLE - Wheel confusion, need help asap!

Hey guys, quite new to posting on here. I have a 2000 GLE with the GXE/GLE rims and I found a good deal on the 17" SE rims (with the bolts covered) for $150.

I'm not sure what to expect going from the stock rims to SE ones on a GLE, the speedo would be off by -1.3% which seems minimal. The 17" SE rims have 225/45r17 (z-rated) tires on them. I can assume the ride would be more responsive at the cost of a slight decrease in fuel economy? Any tire knowledge/ tips are greatly appreciated!

On a side note, I'm getting 18-20mpg with very light driving "feather-foot" (Highway/city mix). Is that normal on these cars? 143,000 km's if that helps. Thanks for help!

More weight means less gas mileage for sure.....not much of A loss IMO but those rims weight more. I'm guessing you just got this car recently, get A new air filter and do A seafoaming for some better gas mileage. The power is fun but the gas goes quick....easy on the pedal their lol.

I'm debating between keeping the ones I have and getting these ones... I've still got good tires, I just hate the look of the rims! I will definitely get a new air filter & look into sea-foaming. What do 2000 GLE's get in the real world for fuel economy?

On a complete side note, you might get a laugh out of my muffler. I'm looking for solutions to that too lmao!

Your speedo will only be affected if you get the wrong tire size.

Check out all the stickies here and here or use the free tire size calculator on websites like Discount Tire etc - here

I see the rusted hole there.....is it loud or just looks?
25 city, 31 highway from what I remember. I put E3 plugs like 5-6 years ago when I got my car and they have been great.....good for 100,000 miles also. Here people love NGK oem original which is fine too....try the E3s for better fuel and more power my secret lol

Thanks Wizard, that's the calculator I stumbled upon earlier! That first link is wicked, nice to have that now. Looks like the rims will work out with no problems.

My exhaust is definitely louder, it's not to the point of being obnoxious but you can notice it for sure. It doesn't sound too bad though... I nick-named it Natures Rumble Service guys asked me if it had any mods done to the exhaust, told 'em just a huge rusty hole haha!

I've been tempted to get rid of her but she's got low km and is in pretty good shape! I think with new rims and better fuel economy things could work out.

I'm actually going to write down a list of suggestions here and then work on getting them all, so if you have any let me know!

plugs, higher psi on tires, advanced timing, and fuel filter are the main things you want to change for fuel economy on our cars.

search around some more, plenty of mpg threads. Welcome

i def recommend replacing fuel filter, i noticed instant 2-3 mpg after changing my original one at 134k miles.

I do want to drop it, tint would be nice too. I'm on a budget though, so if there's a cheap way to drop it feel free to let me know!

there is a cheap way, but its not recommended for anyone that truly cares about their car.

Thanks for that link, I might hold off on lowering it right now. Tinting things might be a better option to start! How dark do you guys suggest going? I'll do front to the legal limit.

I looked into the laws here and apparently any front tint is illegal... I'd rather not have 20 tint on the rears and clear fronts. I'll probably focus more on tuning it up, getting some better fuel economy, and lowering it.

The entire car has a "light" colour scheme going on. I was thinking of getting smoked side markers but I don't think they'll go anymore

I think lowering it a bit should do the trick! Any cheap performance mods I should know of? I should also fix my exhaust if I'm keeping it!

Side note.. Recent fill-up: 23.5 MPG!!!

^ Good luck with the car, looks like with a little TLC and some small maintenance stuff it could serve you well..The 2000 17" wheels look WAY better, changes the whole look of the car immediately.

I've got an exhaust for you if you're interested? It's an ANSA OEM replacement, but it's actually a bit of an upgrade and looks awesome on the car and has some nice 3.5" tips. It does change the sound a bit from stock also.. Let me know if interested, it's just laying around my basement and I will give it to you dirt cheap, just trying to free up some space. I got pics of it on and off the car..

Also got a few other parts laying around from a 2000, if you end up needing something I may have it. You can upgrade your springs to SE over the GLE, I have a stock set of SE springs...It will make your car way more stiffer. You can have em for free if you come pick em up, or pay for shipping.

I also got a few air filters laying around, you can do a real cheap short ram intake with them...Basically this is my sales pitch, I got a few things for you real cheap if you want!

Ok, I'll stop with that. For cheap performance mods, the cheapest would be an OBDII Elm wifi adapter with an android phone app ($20 total) and you can then bump your timing to 17* and do diagnostics on your car which is awesome, best bang for the buck purchase right there.

Nothing else is really cheap performance wise, not that I can think of. Besides maybe a cheap, real simple intake.

That all sounds good! I'd totally come and pick everything up, but that's one hell of a drive. I'll send a pm when I figure out how
