A full size spare will fit, you just won't be able to use the particle board cover. You'll just have to put the trunk carpet over the full size spare & the trunk floor will no longer be flat, you'll have a hump. I had a 2001 I30 that came with the factory option full size spare & there was a foam insert between the full size spare & the trunk carpet that was probably there to keep the carpet from sinking into the center of the wheel.

if this is true it looks like a cut and splice job..on the spare wells.. if nothin is on the way down there....i'll call it trunk on full "MOD".

EXACTLY what i was thinking. get some appropriate gauged metal, and some ballpeen hammers and splice in a small extender to make a it a inch or 3 deeper.

Oh it's definitely true, I found a pic of an I30 with a full size spare on cars.com. As you can see the trunk floor isn't flat however with the full size spare it's not raised all that much.

I had full size spare with 17's and the hump wasn't bad at all. It was barely noticeable. I also have a second layer of carpet over the factory "carpet" so that helped to even it out.

^ My old I30 had the 16" full-size spare option, and the trunk was flat. 17"s will raise it just a bit but not much, no big deal.
