Bulb Question

I checked the Sticky threads and didn't find my answer. I just bought a 2000 Maxima SE. Just in front of the drivers door is a small bulb, the cover is missing. What is this bulb for? What bulb size? Where can i get a new cover, how to attach it? Thanks.

Your description has me unsure.. But if you're talking about the oval hole on the inside of the door panel.. Its a courtesy light. You can get one from a junkyard or from me.

The bulb is on the front drivers side 3-4 inches forward of the door (on the outside surface). Is it an extra turn signal or side marker? I thought it may also be a 194 wedge.

A picture is worth a thousand words..my only thought is that the previous owner installed turn signal lights on the side..

So i take it that particular bulb location is not a standard feature on our cars?

The Maxima QX in Europe has marker lights in the front fenders between the wheel well and the door.

I don't have any information on that model but I would guess that it is a 194 wedge base lamp like the side marker lights on a U.S. Maxima.

Thread Jack Alert! Sorry

Dennis lets just say i retrofit one of these bulbs to the side markers on the bumpers and wire them to the signal lights .

will it blink at the same time or will there still be the issue of alternate blinks???like when it's just spliced to the existing bulb

It depends on how you wire it. The easiest way of wiring it will cause it to alternate blink. This is because the lamp loses its ground when the other lamp is lit.

I would have to spend some time thinking about how to wire it for simultaneous blinking because the side marker is supposed to be on all the time. My first thoughts would be to use a relay with normally closed contacts in it. The power (12 volts) for the side marker lamps would go through the closed contacts inside the relay. You would then connect the relay energizing coil to the turn signal line. When a lamp for the regular turn signal gets power to light up, the relay energizes and the contacts inside the relay open and remove the power to the lamp. You would need a relay for each side of the car.

I plan to leave the existing bulb intact ,but plan to add another lil bulb in there somehow and wire to the signal marker on the headlight...not gonna mess with the parking light .

So i was thinking it might work...
