Ok.
I picked up an 02 se 6mt, and am in love with the birch. Shes got 177k though, and a louuud rap that sounds like valve tap to my mechanic. As opposed to spending all the cash required to get my valve lash back in spec, I planned on swapping in a 02 motor with 25K! and enjoyin the fresh power. The car needs lots of things though...
I have a living room full of bolt ons for the 02 as well.

Now, I ****in found this!!

http://victoria.craigslist.ca/cto/4748460284.html

dude. Guys. Real advice.. should I exit the 3.5 life?
the dek block, de head combo that he describes, is the ideal way to go right?
I could go forced induction so much easier with a 3.0!! And thats got me very interested.

Also, he's got manyyy of the bolt ons already done too. If a mod feels so, will he move this to 4th gen or advanced performance? Just reallyyy want some informed, detailed thoughts by the r4th/5th gen masters that are still around here!

I admire and respect the 3.5, but I'll be a 3.0 guy for life for two simple reasons. No oil burning issues to worry about and forced induction (bolt on 50 state street legal supercharger). Once you drive and/or own a boosted 3.0, you'll never look back.

With just a basic supercharger or turbocharger and no other mods, you'll beat stock 3.5's all day long.
With a fully bolted and heavily modified supercharger or turbocharger, you'll be in the 375+hp range and will crucify any 3.5, even modded 3.5's.

Bottom line: If you're dead set on boost, and you're thinking supercharger instead of turbo, then a 4th gen is a no brainer. If a turbo is definitely in your future, then either a 4th, 5th or 5.5 gen will work for you.

youre the kind of of mind I was looking for . Mind peepin that craigslist ad, (do you know how to make my shlt a hyperlink by the way??) and tellin me what you think, regarding his "build?" Its a hybrid, and I belieeeve from my limited 3.0 readings, that he's got the ideal setup right now.

Thanks for your time and input man. Everything you said so far, is what I've read and noticed.

I fixed your link for you

Ask him what brand headers/ypipe he has, and what brand suspension. All of his parts listed are vague with no brand names. Would like to know if he has quality stuff on there or not. Ask for engine pics too.

I could be wrong, but I thought the ideal setup was a DEK head with the DEK cams, and obviously the awesome 00VI. It seems his setup is just the oppposite...DEK block and DE head with the lame 95-99 intake manifold.

Complete or close to complete SC kits cost anywhere from $1500 to $1800, normally. No ECU tweaking or vacuum modifications. A vacuum source gets T'd into though for the FMU and BOV.

Oh definitely, t hats just a given! Buttt. I'm tryna think of my pockets, just a little bit. If I wanted 3.5 boost, I'm lookin at an engine replacement. And thennn a FI build that requires a decent amount of custom fab..

which leads to.. My poor pockets!! Remember how I can't afford a cattman 3"?? That's how poor I am hah
