Valve cover gaskets

So I got oil leak coming from the engine. Sounds great. Is it just the valve cover gaskets or do I also have to replace the valve cover? What kind of brand is recommended? -5.5th 3.5L

It's well recommend around this interwebs to discard the aluminum valve covers as scrap metal get some money back and pay the difference to get to $30+ per side plus some rtv and gaskets to upgrade to the plastic valve covers on the 6gen 3.5...courtesynissanparts.com

you're close.

All 3.5's have plastic valve covers.
The 5.5 gen valve stem seals in the rocker cover are just crap, plus the rocker covers are a lot more expensive for the older 3.5's than the 6th gen valve cover which fits perfect as well.

If it's aluminum it's a 3.0 and you can just replace those tube seals without having to do the whole rocker cover like on the 3.5's.

Check nissanpartsasap.com as well.
They were cheaper than courtesy for these last I ordered.

Where is the o ring on this oil cooler located? And what you do to your v/c?

I'm sure he replaced the gasket on the rocker and entire rocker cover if needed/if the tube seals are leaking/and the oil cooler is located behind your oil filter.

All you've got to do is remove the upper intake manifold. So just disconnect any hoses or wires going to or from the manifold and the throttle body, and then remove the bolts holding the intake manifold in place and the clamp connecting the throttle body to the air intake. Then after that remove the coil packs and bolts on the valve covers and you should be able to lightly pry them up. Lightly scrape any remaining RTV and clean the surface well. Squeeze little dabs of permatex ultra black rtv in the sharp corners and steep angles of the valve cover and install the gasket. Then squeeze some lines of permatex ultra black RTV on the steep angles of the crankcase. Place the valve cover with the gasket on top and torque down to to the specs listed in this link: http://www.nissanclub.com/forums/200...ver-bolts.html
While you're down there I would also go ahead and do the spark plugs, and if you want you could also install the NWP spacer kit.

Doesn't sound too bad I'm going to try it over this weekend. is the diagram on the picture listing the numerical steps to tighten the bolts or to remove them?

Also, i have a misfire cylinder so im sure one of the spark plugs is getting oil. I'm going to replace it while im at it. Spark plugs were replaced a year ago. Think i should still replace all of them?

What does that nwp spacer do?

The diagram is listing the numerical order in which to tighten the bolts, but I guess you could loosen them that way if you want to. And I would go ahead and just replace all of the spark plugs while you're at it. And the NWP spacers just replace your old gaskets, except they're a lot thicker and use a higher quality material, which in turn keeps your engine cooler. With your engine running cooler, you loose less power. Plus it reduces heat soak. It gives an increase of 10 horsepower and reduces intake manifold temperature by 40 degrees on average. Here's a link to the NWP site: http://www.nwpengineering.com/Phenolic_Spacers.html
Here's a link to the instructions on how to remove the intake manifold: http://infinitihelp.com/diy/i/projec...eplacement.php

Here's where you can get the 6th gen valve covers and gaskets with shipping all for $85. And as far as spark plugs, get the NGK laser platinum. You can get them on Amazon for $8 a piece with free shipping. Just make sure you enter in your vehicle make, model, and year so that you get the right size. Should be pre-gaped to 0.044

Yes, the upper intake gasket will be right there when you remove the upper intake manifold.

I think the cAr starting to consume more gas. Could it be the spark plugs? They're NGK laser. I just replaced them like 3 weeks ago. Car has about 218,000 miles.

I recommend a brand new OEM genuine nissan Ignition coil or Hitachi brand at rockauto.com to be used on the rear. Try to replace the condenser ignition part #28351-89901 (courtesyparts.com)

Horrible mileage

So idont know why my car wastes a lot of gas. Is it because ireplaced my bosch spark plugs with ngk and/or bad precat (rear)? Or coils in the back? Man this car wasting me a lot of money. I do have code for precat that's it
