Transmission starts in second

something that's always bothered me, to start off in first you have to punch the gas and do a peel out. My previous Maximas had a comfort/sport button but this one does not and seems to be in "comfort" permanently. Is there a way to change the transmission shift points via a computer flash of some sort? Or are there different trannys for different trims? I got a GLE (bobo model)

no A/T light on start up, its been like this since I got it. I just want it to stay in first gear longer, or start out in first gear without stomping it. I think it shifts to second too quickly, like almost immediately

under moderate throttle mine shifts out of first gear by 2500-2800rpm, under very light throttle (i.e. going through neighborhood streets) maybe 1600-2000rpm

I would run a scan for codes, just had to replace my trans because of this reason (and many others).

Transgo kit makes the 1st-2nd shift way better anyway, holds 1st way longer and much sharper shift.

My stock 4AT exhibited similar behavior as described in this here thread

And I believe all Maxima 4AT's exhibit this feature....Shifting out of 1st as quickly as possible, light throttle would shift at 1500rpm, retarded. Thing I hated about that the most, is going into a turn from a dig it would ALWAYS shift right in the middle of the turn (retarded)...

I've never experienced the tranny just start in 2nd gear tho, unless you were coasting to a stop at red light but never fully stopped, then it may stay in 2nd as you accelerate again. The Maxima 4AT will only downshift itself into 1st if you come to a complete stop BTW.

With Transgo kit, those problems are long gone and I actually have use of 1st gear now

I know what you mean I think...It can feel like that often times with the stock 4AT because it does shift to 2nd too quickly so the RPM is low and the stock shift itself is very smooth and very low pressure so you don't even feel it and it seems like you just started in 2nd.

Yeah, do some research on Transgo around here, plenty of info out there. If that's something you're not afraid of doing to your car then two options exist, a regular and an HD2 version. Just remember the HD2 version is the more violent one for serious shifting, the regular kit is not as brutal with the shifts but more for city cruising.

It does it to save on fuel consumption etc... Try driving some of the newer 6+ speed automatics, you'll get a headache from watching the RPM meter

Today I drove the Maxima after about a week & I just realized that it does shift in the middle of the turn, hella stupid...

Yup. Its so stupid and unsafe. That crap almost made me run into the curb around a turn last winter....before transgo and before I learned how to really deal with that.

Now if I know Im going into a sharp turn I put it in 1 myself and shift to 2 when needed, **** all that noise.
