2000 Maxima In need of serious HELP

Hey everyone,

Recently i changed my throttle position sensor and the car started revving from 1500-2000 rpm by itself and it wont ever stop. From start up, to as im driving it it will just keep doing the same thing. and one more thing is that when i try to give it gas the engine will either rev from 1500-2000 rpm faster or just stay at 1500. I've already put alot of money into the car already and im really hoping its nothing expensive. Thanks again for the help everyone!

What was the reason to replace TPS? Can you put the original one back? Any error codes?

I did do the idle relearn procedure, and it was the exact same thing. I changed the throttle position sensor because it was giving me problems, i still have the old one but i tried to put it back on and it got even worse. As of right now i dont, but i did get P0505. Now when I give the car gas while its in park the idle like chokes and the car starts to backfire.

You still not providing information- what problems, how it got worse? The only thing I can tell is while P0505 sounds serious you have something else going on- the failed IACV should matter at idle, not when you're giving it gas. 3.0L Maximas have mechanically controlled butterfly plate so the car doesn't really have choice but to open it when you're giving the gas. Somehow ECU gives too much gasoline at that point leading to backfire. Anyway- search for similar problems around here, someone else might have the similar issue before. Please find FSM and check your TPSs - old and new one, IIRC there was procedure for that.

The problem i had was that the idle was high so we changed the throttle position sensor. then the idle lowered down to around 900-950 rpm. so after a while the idea (for some strange reason) of putting the old tps back on, and thats when all the problems started.... ill soon post a video of whats going on with the car

If the car throws 0505 now, meaning it reappears after you clear it you could start there and at least check your ECU for the fried chip. Have you replaced IACV due to 0505 code?

Please confirm 0505 reappears after you clear it, please check your ECU for fried driver chip- failed IACV takes that chip and some PCB traces along with it. Replacing just IACV won't fix your problem and in worst case might damage new IACV you just put in, depending how driver chip failed.

Where is the ecu located so I can take a look at it?

Did you adjust the tps when you put it back in? It needs to be at the right ohms or it will throw everything off even the transmission will not know when to shift. All you need is and ohm meter and you disconnect the harness rotate the tps until it is within spec and then tighten down

Everything was put back the way it's supposed to be.... It's just that the old tps really messed everything up.
