Altima transmission compatibility

Anyone know if an auto transmission from an '03 Max will fit in an auto '02 Altima?

They seem to have different part#'s but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Basically the same, but there are differences in the pan, I think - I've used a valve body from a Maxima on an 02 Altima and it was fine.

Anyone know if it bolts right on? I have someone who owns the Altima asking about the auto trans I have for sale.

You could also consider buying a used transmission from your local auto wrecker. If that is the route you choose be sure include in your search the 4spd out of a Nissan Maxima. There are a lot of Maxima’s out there with the same RE4F04B transmission. Just search for a 03 Maxima auto and you should come up with a lot more options, and, at least in my case, cheaper options as well. Just make note that the Maxima 4spd has a shallower transmission pan then the Altima so the Altima transmission filter will not fit. It’s very simple to swap the pan from the Altima transmission to the Maxima unit.
