I finally got the ecm out of my car. Can someone tell me if this ecm needs to be repaired? It doesn't look like anything is wrong with it. How is supposed to smell? Someone please help

from the pic you posted there's nothing that jumps out to me as bad, but it's still a little blurry and only from one angle so idk. check these chips real good for signs of burning/failure:

i think the bottom left one is the one that commonly fails. you should probably notice some sort of burnt smell if it's bad.

+1.
Yes, the ECU board looks OK. You have nothing to loose - go ahead and assume it's good.

+2

The parts circled by cornholio are STA509A integrated circuits. These can physically burn up if you have a problem with the IACV (Intake Air Control Valve) or the electric motor mounts (automatic transmission only).

Why did you pull the ECM out?

You could be more specific Shiraz and give out a lil more info(i.e. Burned smell when your car died)

I forgot to tell you make sure the iacv you bought is oem since it's recommend here as the only good option, but it's quite pricey.

When your ecm comes back you can do a lot more troubleshooting per the Fsm but you'll need to buy a volt(ohms) reader.
