Pothole really hurt my car, damn winter season!

So just last night I was driving in the city in Rochester, NY and no I don't live in NY I go school there.

There was a nasty huge pothole you couldn't see when it was covered in the snow I was going about 55mph and there was a big boom almost lost control to the car, 2mins later it was making horrible noise and lost to power steering I had to pull over fast as possible, I was lucky I survived from this incident...

Take a look at the comparison screenshots where driver side is axle, transmission, CV joint, lower control arm is done but the passenger side is fine.





Now the man had a hard time getting my car on the lift because it was too low



Anyway the damage is $2,064.87 for fix and including labor hours.

The car is not done with me it will be fixed and be up ready and to spit that pothole 127k miles going strong, never had a problem but only one time just the alternator needed a replace. She strong!

I just hated that my car isn't design for winter mode

But drifting in the snow...

Anyway... to all Maxima people on here, please be careful driving in the winter sometime you may not noticed the pothole when something is covered.

Yeah, I just replaced the LCA on my 2003. The part from rockauto.com was less than $100. A new strut is probably around $100-150. I would recommend getting multiple quotes before spending that kind of money.

Must be the stealership, they wanted to charge me $1500 to replace both my front struts last year. Boy I tell ya, they take price gouging to another level

Make them at least do a ENERGY SUSPENSION LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHING kit

Way too much money...smh

You can fix it by yourself for less than $300
,just go to a wrecking yard and buy the lca,strut,knuckle ,

Then order sway bar links and and tie rod ends from rockauto or you can also get them used to get the car back together asap if you need it to get around, if not just read djfrestyl suspension thread and upgrade the struts while you inthere...

He said the suspension is fine and I'm running Teins Street Advanced Coilovers

Ok but still a under$300 fix (lca+labor) granted yours coilover is still good....

Dude you better hope the drive side one it's not bent...

But replace the lca and take it to the alignment shop...

Okay, I got the car back this morning did test drive for almost 30 miles freeway, and city she is all fixed and the coils isn't giving me any issues as you guys thought would be bent or something, but it not. Coils is still going strong.

That what happens when you buy expensive coil overs instead cheap one like ksports or megan ez racing.

However the bottom of my car where there is cover for Fog lights wiring, is about to fall off would it be okay if I use sheetrocks screws; Drywall screws?

NO. Use the right fasteners/clips. Drywall screws will rust. Do it right.

So even though the damage was limited to one side, they were able to squeeze double the parts and labor out of you by doing both...

Seems like a reputable shop. I'd go back.

It looks like they replaced each axle at least twice- to make sure I guess .

Damn, look at all that beautiful negative caster on that front wheel. That sucks man, I hate all the potholes this time of year.

If I was you, I'd ask the city for $$$ reimbursement since the road damaged your car, you can do that in case you didn't know. I had a similar situation happen one time on a terrible road and the city paid for it.

That's my .02, oh and terrible shop selection for repairs

Process and success rate varies city by city. Still worth a shot.

Good point dude, I'm guessing the process is going to be way harder (PITA), and success rate way lower in NYC compared to where I'm at in VA.

I was following on what the bills says and no they didn't do anything to the passenger side. It just name of the items what was being used.

Anyway... today took her for a spin and now I noticed something when I turn left it making very small noise it not like clicking or popping it just sound like tire is hitting the fender but yes the tire and fender are 1 finger gap or close to none. I checked when I did full turn left went outside nothing seems hitting the fender. Turning right isn't making any noise sounds normal but left very small little bit sometime you can feel it or sometime you just can't hear it.

Any ideas what could be causing? The parts is all brand new unless.. defected?

for as much as you paid take it back and make them fix it. i feel that's more their problem to get sorted than yours

I recommend two things. Whats done is done, they did the work already so IMO your best plan now is to:

1. Go after the city, blame them for their fault and try to get your money back for the work, that will take care of the main problem.

2. Then go to consumer affairs, and go after that shop for fraud. They charged you for double the work and did nothing to passenger side....I would really point out to them the safety concerns here...

Just really get mad and go after them for your moneys, worked for me in the past.

If the wheel is hitting the pin or arm is still bent just because the LCA is replaced dont mean that damn pin is straight also you were Charged DOUBLE for parts
LCA come with balljoints
Axles have all that stuff included in them
