Power Issue

Hey Guys...
Been a member for a couple years and just bought another Maxima (2003). My concern is a power issue...when Im on the interstate and need to go 70-80 MPH I can get there, but it takes longer than it should and my RPMs are at about 2500-3000. Driving through town she is fine and shifts normally. I also have a 2007 Altima 3.5 and the power difference right now is very noticeable. Anyone else ever had an issue like this?

Thats the thing finding them...I guess the search is on. Whats the power gain from headers? Is it worth the trouble?

I had the same problem before I replacing my MAF - my car was so lethargic on the freeway. Once I replaced my MAF, everything went back to normal. As a first cut, you can try to clean it ....

Hmmm, I guess it happens. Usually it just causes excessive fuel consumption or won't rev right.

80 bucks is worth a shot, OP, but the cats should go regardless for engine safety.

Get rid of all cats is what I recommend LOL There's no reason to have them, period, unless you're in that ridiculous state called CA.

I'm confused on what precats are. I know there are the headers, then the catalytic converter, then the catback. Is there stuff in between the catalytic converter and the headers or are the precats just part of the catalytic converter?

I was wondering the same thing myself. . .

I think a lot of states other than CA require cats. . for instance, I'm from Colorado and I definitely wouldn't pass an emissions test without the cats. Emissions testing is required every two years there as well. But I know more than a few people who just put their cats back on for the test and then take them off again afterwards.

I'm in WV...no emissions testing here. Not sure if I want to delete the cats though.

It goes like this:

OEM exhaust is like this:

OEM Header--->OEM Y-pipe(with pre-cats)--->Catalytic Converter--->OEM B-Pipe--->and finally OEM muffler.

A catback system replaces everything in blue, i.e. everything after the catalytic converter down to and including the muffler.

An aftermarket Y pipe replaces the OEM Y-pipe(with pre-cats.) The
aftermarket Y-pipe also offers the biggest bang for the buck in terms of performance and price.

I think Im going to go with the aftermarket YPipe and a new catalytic converter. Everything after the converter has already been replaced...where are you guys finding your aftermarket ypipes?
