It seems there is a problem with your airbag and/or the security/restraint system. After you did shut off the car, the problem now prevents your car from starting. The problem may be caused by a mechanical failure, or perhaps the car was in an accident and it wasn't fixed properly. You may find more on http://www.airbagsolutions.com/vehicles_list.aspx, but it will cost you at least $14.95. Have you tried to jump start? Battery probably died...

Any work done lately?

If the engine doesn't turn over, you may have a dead battery or a bad ignition switch.

Start by getting a voltmeter and see if the battery has 12 volts. If it has less than 12, it is discharged. You can try getting the car jumped if the battery is discharged. If the car starts, are the BRAKE and BATTERY lights in the dash on? This would indicate the alternator is not charging the battery.

Check these things and report back. Also let us know what year your car is, because all the years are not identical.

air bag light

I've had my 2000 se do similar and i started with most likely cause .no wreck and no recent work ,possibly a fuse .as it turned out it was a fuse for ignition and alternator went bad which was the reason for air bag light. My dash cluster went a lil bonkers ,along with everything else including my brakes being stiff. Hope this may help

Posts #5-7 list most probable causes for your troubles. I'd start from checking the battery voltage or simply try to jump start the car. Steering wheel and brake pedal being stiff are simply consequences of the engine not running, don't worry about them.
