02 maxima- fuel pump notpumping fuel after replacement

So after replacing the fuel pump, filter and reusing original strainer, the fuel pump is running when priming but not pumping fuel. due to new parts being retrofitted to fit multiple applications, minor mods had to be made to allow the assembly to be reassembed. I.E sanding of plastic pieces to allow reassembly of fuel pump assembly.also the new strainer wasnt able to used as the bottom cap wouldnt fit onto bottom of pump. Also the grommet that seats pump to bottom cap was left out. but everything was assembled correctly. fuel pump buzzes but doesnt pump fuel. also fuse was resinstalled under steering column. any ideas?

lo i did! the assembly is all connected together strainer and all. i did notice when comparing old and new, pumps side by side they stuck together magnetically. ive never heard of this being an issue but is there any possibility this could have caused a problem?

If you purchased the "right" pump and filter ,no modification should be needed at ALL!... unless you broke something....
