2001 Maxima brake light switch pin connection

Im new to the forum so please excuse my newbie-ness~

so, I've had the "brake lights stay on" scenario occur because of the little rubber stopper thingy once before.. this time, however, after replacing the rubber thingy, the brake lights STILL stayed on continuously... so, i figured that the brake light switch was finally broken (215k!)
next, i bought a brake light switch from Napa, for 41 bucks, only to find that the clip to connect the switch electrically has a different pattern and won't fit... checked the item part number on the napa website... turns out napa gave me the correct part... next, i went to advance auto parts... looked at their switch... it has the same configuration as the napa one... which also won't fit the electrical plug connector that i have in my car..

(theres no part number on the original nissan switch that I'm ONLY ASSUMING is non functional.... )

so, would anyone know if there is any additional way of determining that the malfunction IS, in fact, the brake light switch thats gone bad?? (i don't have a electrical/ohm signal reader thingy nor do i know how to really use one)

-the thought had crossed my mind that maybe i have to buy the switch [with the proper electrical connective piece] from a nissan dealer...
***please can anyone help??!!!***
and thanks in advance!!
ps.. Maximas Rock!!

Read this thread on how to change the brake light switch. It starts at post # 8.

http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...ht-switch.html

First, verify that the switch is adjusted properly. The plunger of the switch should be fully depressed when the brake pedal is not being stepped on. As a quick test to see if it is the switch, unplug the wire harness from the switch. The brake lights should be off. If the brake lights are still on, then it could be a problem with the hazard flasher switch being shorted. Then unplug the wire harness from the hazard flasher switch and see.

You don't have to necessarily buy the switch from the dealer. It appears that NAPA is screwed up, so try another parts store.
