Miles to expect

How many miles could one expect to get on a 2001 anniversary, well maintained since new. Currently 174K runs strong, no smoke or odd noises ?

270,000 miles on my wifes stock 00 GLE and still going strong. Under the hood I've changed the valve cover gaskets, MAF, coils, alternator, starter, power steering hose, radiator/fans and a few sensors. It's time to change the crank seals but that's to be expected at this mileage. It may sound like a long list but that's over the last 11 years and 230,000 miles we've owned it for. None of those are really big jobs (though I'm not looking forward to doing the rear crank seal).

Overall I've been very impressed with it. The 5th gen car is very reliable as well as a very nice car to own/drive. I own two and wouldn't hesitate to get another clean one one even with high miles.

Do you live in the rust belt? I'm in the Northeast & in this part of the country the cars rot away to nothing long before they've had a chance to die mechanically. I remember when I went to Florida a few years ago I was surprised to see cars that were 20+ years old that still looked almost new. That doesn't happen in NY.

So basically you guys in the rest belt buy cars that you know are going
to turn to **** soon. Why buy a new car then? Or even take care of it.

Yup, My cars have been here in Florida their whole lives and there's not a speck of rust on them. Even the underside still has all the paint on it and the bolts are all still shiny.
