What's the best motor oil to use? Castrol GTX Conventional or High mileage GTX?

I have a 2001 Max with about 175k on it. I bought it with about 140k 2 years ago. I've used Castrol GTX 10W-30 conventional oil till this day. I want to start using a thicker viscosity (10w-40) due to the engine getting older but I'm also debating on whether I should use High Mileage oil. I've read many mixed reviews on this topic so I want to hear it from you guys now from experience too. Pros and Cons. I'm a loyal Castrol customer and I want to stick to it. I'm looking at the Castrol GTX High Mileage 10W-40 oil. It's a synthetic blend oil which has me a little scared since my engine has very high mileage. What do you guys think?

Main difference is that GTX HM is a syn blend like you said, vs regular GTX which is conventional. Despite it being syn blend, GTX HM is supposed to have additives that reduce leaks/burning.

I always ran regular GTX in my old 5.5 gen. I tried out GTX HM for a little while in hopes that it would reduce my oil burning, but I never noticed any difference so I switched back. So at your mileage, I would just stick to regular GTX and a high quality filter if I was you.

As far as the weights, I always ran 10w-30 in summer and 5w-30 in the winter. I've read good things about 10w-40 here on the forums (lots of threads if you search), but I never tried it so I can't speak for it personally.

I forgot to write that I do use the Mobil1 oil filter which I've heard is the best next to OEM. So I guess I'll try out the regular Castrol 10W-40 oil as see what's up.

Best oil could be debated till the end of time.... Mobil 1 vs Amsoil ect etc ect.....

If you love Castrol Gtx just don't use it during the freezing months if it gets really cold where you live.

oil viscosity:

Castrol GTX 5W/30

You cannot question a success, since I bought my maxima I have a problem on a cold start during winter time, metallic sound like the chain slipping on the sprocket. Since I used this oil Castrol GTX 5w/30 even we had a bad winter season this year in New Jersey, I have no single episode of metallic sound during cold start.

I have 206,000 on my 01 and have been using Mobil-1 high mileage synthetic/filter. No issues here and love the oil.
