2 EVAP codes and car won't rev past ~2500rpm

So all of a sudden my 2002 6MT started feeling really sluggish and wouldn't go past about 2500 rpm and it feels like a rev limiter is kicking in when it reaches that point. The engine light was on, but it was on before it happened as well (an O2 sensor that i hadn't got around to replacing yet). I checked for codes right away and got a P1448 and a P0455, but oddly the O2 code was gone)

I searched the forums for the codes and found that the codes are related to the EVAP system, but I found no mention of the rev limit symptom. When I searched the forums for the rev limiter symptom, it came up as a MAF sensor problem and nothing was mentioned about the EVAP system. The codes and the actual symptoms that I'm experiencing don't seem to be related, so I was hoping somebody could give their input before I go replacing things unnecessarily. Thanks.

Car won't rev past 2500 rpm is usually a symptom of a bad MAF.

EVAP canister and valve won't make your car not rev past 2500 rpm. But you should fix it soon

Yeah, that's what all my searching told me too but I was kinda skeptical cause what are the chances of both problems happening at the EXACT same moment in time, so I thought, maybe by some stretch, the 2 are connected. Well this morning I still had the codes but the rev problem is gone, so I'm thinking maybe the ECU went into "limp mode" to prevent more damage or something?

What caused the problem in the first place was me trying to teach my gf to drive standard and she panicked and hit the brakes without disengaging the clutch, thereby stopping the car while still in second gear and stalling the engine. I'm not sure how that would cause the EVAP to fail, probably was about to go anyway and this was just the last straw? But I imagine the ECU didn't like her stop and that's perhaps why it went into limp mode?

I dunno, what do you think of my theory? I rather hope I'm right cause I would much rather it be this than have to replace an expensive MAF sensor. Thanks for your input too BTW, nothing sucks more than not getting a single reply on a thread.

It's just a coincidence... The EVAP canister components are outside the car so it's been fighting nature for 14+ years

Well since the bad maf symptom stopped, I'll not let your gf anywhere near the driver seat....

Takle the evap codes first and clean the maf for good measure...

By then one if the OG's or someone with experience can chime in...btw let your gf pay for parts, make her think she broke your car

Lol I can't really fault her I'm probably a pretty ****ty teacher and I'm sure the parts were about to fail anyway.

Anyway, I got the evap canister vent control valve from the dealership for way too much money ($150 CAD), installed it and cleared the codes and it hasn't come back yet but I've only put maybe 20km on it since. Hopefully it fixes it.

The weird thing is, before all this I had an engine light for my bank 1 primary o2 sensor, but ever since I got these 2 codes I haven't seen it once. Before when I tried clearing the o2 code it would return within 1 minute of the engine running, but now... Nothing.
