starts and dies, idles fine, drives okay.

So I'm having an issue with the car starting up. When I start the car regardless of if it's warmed up or cold start, it starts, revs to about 1000-1200 RPM for one second, then dies. I have to give it a little gas (1500) for 2-3 seconds after it start, then when I let off everything runs fine. Idles ar about 750/800 On a cold start and about 650/700 when it's warmed up. Doesn't die when I'm driving it at all, only having this issue when I start it up. No CELs, seems to drive fine and run fine (though slightly sluggish it seems like, but it's my first Maxima). I was looking at a few threads about IACV, after I get it to start everything seems to idle where it needs to be. I tried looking at vacuum hoses but being my first Maxima, I can't really tell if there are any lines hidden from view, but the ones that I've seen so far seem okay and bend/block/leak free. So I've been thinking about fuel filter and spark plugs. What are some symptoms when you have a clogged FF with these cars? Are they replaceable or do you have to replace the entire unit when it goes? Any ways to check? And when I first got the car it had a cyl 4 misfire, so I replaced the coil and everything seemed good after. But when I checked the plug it was fouled. So my next question is if all the plugs are fouled (haven't checked), could this be the reason for the no start til it gets gas?

The fuel filter is located in the tank. Its attached to the pump.

What year is your maxima?

Auto or standard?

Mileage?

When was the last time you pulled the codes? Just because the CEL isn't on doesn't mean you wont have stored/pending DTC's.

Fuel filter write up is on the stickies the so called lifetime filter needs to be replaced just cuz....

but i had a similar issue for the longest, mine would stall only after warmed up,when i got to my destination i would put it in park and before i could turn off the ignition it would die, if i restart it I'll die again unless i gave it gas...finally i installed a different maf sensor and all was right with the world again...

If you go in to replace the fuel filter, I'd replace the fuel pump motor while you're in there. It is user replaceable within the assembly, look for a video on the breakdown though it's not immediately obvious. I ended up recycling my old filter which was very clean because the aftermarket one didn't fit. The pump motor replacement did resolve many low idle/stall issues I had.
