I made a short video for those curious about how an open exhaust with factory muffler sounds at WOT inside.

AEM dry flo cone, y pipe, test pipe, stainless b pipe....no resonator.

Lol!

But that does sound really nice. Throaty, very mean sounding but doesn't sound too crazy inside. Nice exhaust build.

Sweet I spoke to warpspeed and since I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima I'd have to get the cali spec y pipe.
How much would a shop charge to have that pipe put on? Any idea?

Any maxima year 2000.5+ is cali spec.

It depends....my car doesn't have much rust at all and I still had to have the bolts drilled out and replaced....that'll take some time. Expecting $150 isn't a bad idea.

That sounds really good. I might try this set up.

I've been debating eliminating the magnaflow and installing an OEM muffler.

While Ive got everything apart, I might slap in an electric cut out after the y pipe. I think it would be fun to go from mild tone to insane loud and back again.

Two things.....one is there is a tiny bit of raspy g35 sound in a couple spots very low in the rpms....you will either like it, or it will occasionally annoy you. In my case being an audio snob, it annoys me when i have the windows down...simply because in those couple of spots it sounds a little too race track ready for the street...lol. The second thing is beware of those exhuast cutout things..i dont think the "seal" will be as good as you think when its closed...it will probably leak like a strainer. Just my .02. And thanks btw

Thanks for the heads up on the cut out not sealing. I don't have any prior experience with them. The only ones I've seen in person were on an old LS3 swapped monte carlo. It was really really loud.

The g35 rasp is....okay I guess. I think I could live with it. Currently my straight through setup is starting to feel a little.... ahem... immature. Too much race track ready for me/the cops.

You should make a longer video. More in cabin with the windows up/down. Maybe a flyby or two?

Yeah I thought about doing that...some low rpm runs. I can't imagine how loud mine would be with a straight through muffler. It would be undrivable I think

Eventually you should get rid of that stock b pipe...maybe have a custom one put in with a nice resonator. The stock one has a horrible crimp in it.

I was thinking of getting rid of the resonator and all like you did.
From the test pipe to the stock muffler, stainless " 2.5 pipes?

Even though it looks terrible and seems like it's far too small and sucks even more with ther crimp, plenty of us (VQ35's) have put down great numbers even with the stock B-pipe. I managed 233 w/my AT and I've seen MT's do upwards of 245-250.

I've installed a lot of electric cutouts......cheap ones, and the "good" ones....they all suck, and the motors eventually burn out.
