Oil change 02-03

So i've been using super mobile oil premium on my car 10-30w. Recently i let the mechanic change the oil and im not sure what kind of oil he used but he didnt fill the oil tank high. All iknow is he used 10-30w. It starts making that lifter sound when oil is below half way. So i filled it with mobile 1 full synthetic 10-30w (one quart only). And then i realized the mechanic used mobile 1 filter but anyways would it be safe to use mobile 1 full synthetic 10-30w on the next oil change? Or just keep doing premium super mobile oil. I got to keep feeding oil but i want to make sure im using a good one that can make the engine last since it's almost reaching its 250,000 miles.

I wouldn't mix brands..... but you CAN safely switch from conventional oil to syn blend, full syn without issues at all it's perfectly safe...

Since you keep adding oil(does it burn or leak) just stick to conventional if the full syn trends to ne more pricey...

I get Mobil1 high mileage full syn from wallyworld for like $28

And change it every 6k miles..

Next interval I'm gonna try the Pennzoil platinum

I don't think 0w40 is smart seeing that OP lives in Chicago...

It burns oil. I dont see why i would use 0-40w. But yea if i go with full synthetic i would use that mobile 1 high mileage. So i see it's safe to switch from conventional to full synthetic. Should i relplace the oil filter too or just switch oil.also, Is it ok to keep the oil level at it's highest?

If it loses a lot of oil I'd put the cheapest synthetic in it. You're not keeping it long enough to get the benefits of a more expensive oil (longer lasting). You can switch brands and types all you want as long as it's the proper oil.

How fast is it losing oil?
At 250,000 it's probably losing some through the crank seals.

Did you not read ZERO DOUBLE U Not only is it 0W rated, but it's actual syn and flows much better when cold than conventional. It's suitable even for -45. It's exactly what he should be running for a high mileage motor in a cold climate.

Depending on how much I were adding between changes, I'd go 10-12k when using a high quality filter when the temps are decent. I'm currently running a Purolator Pure One for a ZR-1.

Will l use to fill it up every 2 weeks when it would be half way. This my daily car plus i use it more on the weekends. All highway miles. So i want to calculate how much oil i consume with the upcoming oil change. How can i do this? Im going to do mobile 1 full synthetic 10-30w high mileage on the next one.

There've been a lot of rumors about not to mix oils, syn can't work with conv. ect. NO, my friend, I read paper from professionals, they said there will be absolute no problems to mix any 2 commercial motor oils. Synthetic can be mixed with Conventional, different brands have no problem work together. They simply have a slight difference in their additives.

+1 They would have to be vastly different types of oil to have any mixing issues from additives.

I've been doing it for years when I can't get the right weight.

Dunno I just meant that all auto oils are pretty homogenized. There's not much difference between them except for the base stock used (an exception would be like high zinc for high performance/racing oils, which doesn't affect mixing of course).

If its burning heavily, I would really try the 0w40. However, I ran motul 10w40 in my first 5.5g and it burned as quick as regular oil. In my situation at that point my engines done... It would burn 2-3 quarts every 3 days regular driving regardless of oil weight.
