Is Mobil 0W40 really that great?
Is Mobil 0W40 really that great?
From what I've read, this oil and our engines seem to be a match made in heaven. I'm not burning any oil *knock on wood* and am running synthetic 5W30. Is it worth giving the Mobil 1 a shot this summer? People say it makes the engine run pretty quiet and smooth. What's the trade off in gas mileage? I usually get around 22-23 mpg in 60% city/40% hwy driving.

Its pretty good but I'm going to try castrol 5w40 (says made for BMW/Audi/Benz on the jug). This one is a lighter 40 weight at around 13.x CST (40 range is something like 12.3-16.x). The 5w will be better for start ups in summer vs 0w and it being slightly thicker means it should burn slower.
I use German made castrol 0w30 which is a 30 weight oil that's on the thicker side like 12.2 CST or something (almost classified as 40 since the range for 30 is like 7.x to 12.3 cst. This oil is highly rated in 'Bob is the oil guy' and 350z forums with excellent Blackstone oil lab results. Its pretty good but I'm going to try castrol 5w40 (says made for BMW/Audi/Benz on the jug).
