2000 I30t P0720 wont clear!

I changed the VSS on my car with a factory part ordered from Courtesy Nissan. The O/D stopped blinking and the car shifts smoothly now. Tried to go get an inspection and P0720 came up. Needless to say I did not pass. With the registration expiring, I need to get an inspection or junk the car. I am desperate, any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

P0720 is "Vehicle Speed Sensor·A/T (Revolution Sensor)". The revolution sensor and the VSS are different critters.

But run the auto trans self diagnostic and see if it says speed sensor or revolution sensor.

The procedure starts on page 50 in the link below:
http://boredmder.com/FSMs/Infiniti/I30/2000/AT.pdf

Page 49 says to check that the throttle position switch works before running the diagnostic.

Thanks for the replies, everything I read said that if the speedo didnt die that it was not the input sensor(the one with the gear) but the output one(it just plugs in). My mechanic cleared it with his computer(dont know the type, it looks like a tablet) and he tried to get it to pass. He said as soon as he got it off, it would come back on. I just lost my job and would like to keep the car, but if it is a major fix then I cant. Sorry for my emotional response, I am just trying to work with what I have.

I'm curious as well. I just put in a new VSS and my "service engine soon" light has stayed on after I drove the car around for about 15 min. I do have the ability to clear the code through my OBD-ll device, but I've read that at least one person had the light go off right away.

Any thoughts?

The biggest majority of the codes that turn the SES light on do not go away right after you fix the problem. They will eventually after several of what Nissan calls "drive cycles", but that could take several days or longer depending on how you drive.

So connect your OBD machine and clear the code.

THE p0720 IS NOT THE VSS (SPEED SENSOR with the green wheel)..It is the revolution sensor right by the driver strut.

If one were to look in the 2000 Infiniti i30 FSM, the AT (Automatic Transaxle) section at the description of P0720 on page 114, Nissan lists the DTC as "VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR·A/T (REVOLUTION SENSOR)". Link above in post # 3.

Since both terms are used, this opens up a gray area for confusion.
