2012 Subaru Impreza Sport hatchback and had her first oil change done on schedule when it hit its first 3,000 miles.
But since that oil change, she says she has been adding a quart of oil every 800 to 1,000 miles.
Shugars says her Subaru dealer told her that her car’s oil consumption is normal
If your car isn't a hand me down would u have bought a maxima if you knew
about the oil burning problem?
Some consumers we followed up with told us they would not have bought their oil-burning cars
had they known they would be checking their oil so often.
Which demonstrates that German cars are junk and have been junk for 15+ years. If they're this lazy at designing their engines and being cheap skates..what else are they cutting corners on LOL. Their electronics are a joke, we know that. That's why they're unaffordable after the warranty is up.
My '91 E34 doesn't burn any oil and it's over 210k miles . What's BMWs excuse, now?

I don't think that 3.5 burned oil at first/brand new.
Did they?..
Why would it be in your owner's manual then?
on the other hand, the used vq35de I put into the Maxima hasn't burned oil yet after 1,500 km of driving
Maybe it was due to their tools and the leeway for the required precision gap was too thin. The machines can't be 100% efficient so due to the small leeway gap some of the engines ended up with this issue while others were fine because the machines being used were within spec?
Nissan doesn't give a f8k and they covered their butt by putting oil consumption issue in the owner's manual
Yeah I was really surprised to see this in the manual. No mileage specified like some manufacturers, e.g., 1 qt per 1000 miles is normal. Just a general statement saying "some usage" is normal b/w oil changes. Gotta hand it to Nissan's legal team -- CYA at its finest.
My I35 requires about .5-.75 qts every 3K miles or so, and that's only if I do a lot of hwy driving. Certain oils are worse than others. Valvoline and Quaker State syns seldom require top offs in my experience. Gonna give M1 0W40 a whirl next.
My Accord w/almost 200K miles doesn't use a drop of oil.

Honda got sued for oil consumption on their V6s made about 5-9 yrs ago LOL. Rings are junk and eat oil like it's food.
Dodge's pos 3.8 would burn 2 qts every 3k from the lot. Those MFers should be liquidated.
I have 3 maximas now. A 2000 gxe with 248,000 miles on it. Doesn't burn a drop of oil. Have a 2003 fully loaded SE auto the eats oil for breakfast. 3qts every 3000 miles and more if I drive hard. Oh it now has 138,000 miles.
Now the question was asked would we still by a maxima if we knew about the oil consumption issue. My answer is Yes as I just bought another 2003 SE with a manual transmission with 107,000 miles on it. I am hoping it doesn't eat as much oil as my 2003 auto.
I really like the 03 maximas.
