assuming that the overall diameter of the wheel stays close to the original (eg. bigger rims w/ lower profile tires) it shouldn't matter what size you get. they're both more weight-dependent than size-dependent.

the weight issue is the main concern with bigger rims. higher weight, less mileage.

There is also discussion about taller rims taking away power. It comes down to physics. The weight, assuming that you can find a 15" wheel and a 18" wheel at the exact same weight, on the 18" wheel is further away from the hub meaning the inertia is greater to move it. Search and you will find it ... just a hint it was a long time ago.

I guess I can see what they are talking about as you don't see any drag cars on 20" wheels ...

You don't see large wheels on drag cars not because of the wheel size but because they need tires with large sidewalls. If you look at cars with big slicks when you launch you'll see the tire flex and kind of "krinkle and crumble". On FWD cars it is even more important. All those little Civics running 9's and 10's only have about 5-6psi in the fronts. This is so that they can take advantage of this effect. If you are buying larger wheels and get the right size tires, you shouldn't see too much of a gas mileage drop. They are slightly heavier though, but not much.
