Awhile back I had pulled two Master window switches from 5th gens at a local junkyard and neither of them worked in my 5.5 GLE. I returned them as bad but now I'm curious if there's a compatibility issue between the two gens. The 5th gen switches I pulled did not have the AUTO feature on the passenger window switch but did on the driver's side (pulled from SE/GXE). My switch has AUTO on both.

There are a few more 5th gens I can pull from but I don't want to bother if they aren't compatible. Are there compatibility issues for this switch between the 5th and 5.5gen models?

 

The driver's side master window switch is different for every year of the 5th gen. You have to get the same exact one when you go to replace one.

You are right about the passenger door window auto up/down. The 5.0 didn't have it, it was a 5.5 feature. The 5.5 also has windows down from the key chain remote. The 5.0 doesn't have that, but I don't think this has anything to do with the window switch.

 

Good to know, I appreciate the info. I grabbed a few more before I read this so rather than trying them I will just return them. Unfortunately a 5.5 gen in a junkyard around here is sort of like finding a unicorn. 5th gens are fairly common but the 5.5 gens, not so much.
