Hello everyone. New owner of a 2000 Maxima SE 5 speed. The car didn't have a check engine light on but it came on after I purchased it. I reset the codes and drove about 400 to 500 miles before it came back on. The two codes I have are P0153 and P0420. I read there is a TSB for a re-flash of the ECU. Do you know if the dealer would still charge for this? I also heard that changing out the radiator core support side bank (2) pre-cat sensor could also be the issue. Thoughts?

Car's so old TSB was probably already done

 

P0153 points to a problem with the Front O2 sensor, left bank, i.e. the one by the radiator. I would replace it first, then deal with the P0420 next (if it's still on). Re. the reflashing, you just need to talk to a Nissan dealer; only he can do this task.

 

Thanks guys. I got the front O2 out last night. Now I need to find out if I have CA or US emissions to get the right O2 sensor. O the joys of $3k cars lol.
