So will this be your 2nd maxima or did you aready buy the Max (your sig). The Maxima is a more powerful car and there are alot more mods for the Max than the jetta. 2000-01 Maximas have the mod advantage over my 2002 and there are several body kits to choose from as well

The Maxima is more roomier and the interior on all trims are either better on par w/jetta. I would get the Maxima the jetta is more of a cutesy car

I too was deciding which of these two cars I would buy. The things I liked about the GTI were the turbo and the extensive choice of exterior mods for the car. I hated the size (I'm 6'3) and the actual dealer experience I had. I decided to shell out a few more bucks and buy the Maxima because I liked it more. I've read about alot of problems with VW's - I'm not sure of the quality of the 2002's. I still wouldn't mind having one though because they are a blast to drive.

What kind of mods will you be doing? Exterior or engine?

Whatchyou talkin' about, Willis ???

With that little 1.8L turbo, you can mod out a GTI like no tomorrow. And with a little chip, bump up the Turbo output like nobodies business and get 30 more HP real easy. OR upgrade to a K04 Turbo kit and get about 240 HP at the crank. Those new 1.8L engines are very easy to mod, and durable as well. Also, there are many more chassis, suspension and handling mods for the GTI as well.

Really, if you plan to mod a lot, get the GTI. The advantage of the Maxima is luxury and interior space. The GTI will handle better and it weighs less than the MAxima, also.
