Mass Air Flow----Multiple Misfire ? ?

Hi Friends,

CAR: 03 Max, Auto, 95k

SYMPTOMS
  • Car Runs Rough at idle, but when i accelerate it seems to run fine
  • Showing SES light
  • In Neutral, without AC, car doesn't skip (but when in gear, it does)
  • I pulling code p0300 and have changed the front 3 plugs (haven't gotten to back yet).

QUESTION
-Could the Mass Air Flow Sensor cause the above symptoms ?
-If so, would a good cleaning help the issue?

Thanks for your input...!

Remember a 300 code is an indication of random cylinder misfires, or a problem that
is inherent in to all cylinders, so I would first check the EGR valve as if it's not operating
properly it will allow air to enter and create a lean mixture, rough idle but will run fine
at the higher RPM's. Then go to fuel supply, or the MAF.
It's a start.

I once had a p0300 code on an 2003 maxima due to bad fuel pump (not enough gas)..but that should be your last resort.

Hey Thanks Turbo,

BUT, remember the EGR was eliminated (from what i read) in mid-2000. So it doesn't exist in the 03.

multiple misfire

Hook up your vehicle to OBD scan tool with live feed to detect error code and IMPENDING error code. Check or replace sparkplugs and ignition coil. Check the igniton coil connector. Use OEM Genuine NISSAN ignition coil or HITACHI Brand at Rockauto.com ONLY. Clean MAF sensor. DO NOT SPRAY CRC ON THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY OF VQ35DE. FOR VQ30DE ENGINE YOU CAN CLEAN IT WITH CRC BECAUSE ITS MECHANICAL THROTTLE BODY. Perform throttle relearn procedure to reset the ECU or hook up to Consult II of Nissan Stealership.

I've cleaned my throttle body a bunch of times. I've even moved the plate. I have an 02 and as long as you perform the relearns correctly it's fine.
