Care will not idle

Hey guys, got a issue with my 2001 Nissan Maxima, I'm not sure what is the problem, but my car will not stay cranked/idle everytime I take my foot off the gas pedal the car dies. I am suspect that my fuel pump will need to be replaced. Can anyone offer any advice as to what might be the problem?

I seriously doubt that it is a fuel pump problem. Try cleaning the throttle body and throttle plate. check the TPS (throttle position sensor).

Is the check engine light on?

I agree with Dennis - it's almost certainly not a fuel problem.
However, in addition to your TPS it could also be your MAF or your IACV. Try to clean your MAF.

IACV will create havoc with the idle, but it can be checked with a multimeter.

Well just took it into the shop and found it's the IACV. Was told the part alone would be $500 bucks, does that sound about right? Dennis, the check engine light came on last night.

Check out the following:

Amazon.com: 1999-2001 Nissan Maxima Idle Air Control Valve Actuator # AC278 ENP1103: Automotive Amazon.com: 1999-2001 Nissan Maxima Idle Air Control Valve Actuator # AC278 ENP1103: Automotive

At one time the prices were high, but dropping rapidly.

Slow down. The IACV failure is a nasty, and a well-known problem, with our cars. Read this note first: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6O...1fNlF5QjQ/view . Once you understand the issues, proceed in this order:
  1. Make sure your ECU is not damaged.
  2. If your ECU is damaged, you need to fix your ECU and replace your IACV - and you need to do both of these things at the same time.
  3. If your ECU is not damaged, you only need to replace your IACV. Courtesy parts sells them for about $241; here is the link: http://www.courtesyparts.com/oe-nissan/237812y012
Good luck!

Edit: Corrected the URL for IACV part.

The part alone is about half of that.

So Maxiiiboy, two questions:
1. How do I know if my ECU has been damaged?
2. If it is damaged, how do I go about fixing it?

Thanks

Visual inspection. This thread https://maxima.org/forums/5th-genera...d-seconds.html has quite a few pictures.

Thanks
Have you read the doc I gave you the link for? The answer is in the last section.
