Just another thought for those who have personal licence plates, when you get them are to stop using the original plates that came with the car?

I am going to try to answer you question even thought that sentence made no sense.

It depends upon state laws. But in most cases you dont stop using your plates until the registration has been transfered to your new personalized plates or you had your registration for the old plates cancelled. Once you got the new registration, you can put on the new plates and take the old ones back.

Yeah on my Explorer i have the personalised tags (they say Yomie!) ok, i had to apply for them and they got approved, then you gotta wait for them to make the tag. (while they are doing all this you are still driving with your old tags). They(DMV) will call you up when they get your tags. In order to pick up your personalized tag you have to turn in your old tag, and thats it.

 

sorry if i wasn't clear, I did receive the new plates but they sent mine in the mail and yesterday i renewed my reistration and both plates are on the registration to help out i am in NY

 

ahh so you have both of them. i would put on the perso. tags and just take the regular NY state tags and put them in my room somewhere and save them, just incase they ask for them back later in the future
