aftermarket radio no steering wheel control

I think we all can learn from Prophecy99. I learned to drive stick on an 83 GTI. I remember when they started offering the car in automatic. I was furious, saying that real drivers should demand a manual transmission. But like krismax said, "I don't like Susy but others do ,and that's fine."
I read a book years ago by Alvin Toffler that talks in detail about the period we are in now, where change is so rapid that some individuals will undergo a state he called Future Shock. It's an interesting read.
Here is a quick excerpt from Wikipedia:
Future Shock is a 1970 book by the futuristsAlvin and Heidi Toffler,[1] in which the authors define the term "future shock" as a certain psychological state of individuals and entire societies. Their shortest definition for the term is a personal perception of "too much change in too short a period of time".
Chop,
Maybe you should start a new thread about what made the old car stereo culture better so that we can figure out how to get our steering wheel controls working because that is the goal of this thread.

I don't have a problem with future shock as they call it. I grew up in the 70s and 80s which was also a big time of change, tech and otherwise, perhaps even more so than today, but there was still quality built in to products. Ever heard the term planned obsolescence? THAT'S the era we live in now, where quality doesn't matter anymore it's just get em out the door as quickly and cheaply as possible and if something fails oh well buy another one. That's the problem I have with the tech of today. And the ME generation enabled it-- always gotta have the newer better and brighter so it doesn't matter whether quality is built into products anymore.

At first a can-bus decoder but it was finicky. Now I use an $80 module that also ads auxiliary input

oh wow ! props for figuring it out ! i ended up spending $150 and have a new headunit and many many features, i literally have a phone button on the new head unit, never would have thought that would be nice, but now my car is like a 2020 car w hands free calls, all from the head unit upgrade.
