COLD AIR BOX for 5th Gen
We all know that the current crop of intakes, besides the ones you have to cut(CAI) into the fender, draw hot air from the engine: Thus robbing low end power. Who would be interested in a cold air box, which fits around your current intake system that would allow you to draw cold air from the front of the car. It would look similar to this:

Should make less noise than current intakes because your intake will now be in a box with a large diameter snorkel sucking in cold air. No dyno yet because it is still in development.My goal is create a high quality thermoplastic or CARBON FIBER COMPOSITE box that draws cold air from the front of the car- not from the engine bay. COLD AIR IS GOOD!! It will look very SLEEPER under the hood. It will also make your max easier to sell down the road - if you do so.

how are u makeing this?? are you useing the stock air box as a guide?? or are you make'n it from scratch? i made one from the stock air box and it works.. but the stock air box looks ugly.. well its sounds like it a good idea.. good luck on the developments..

That sheetmetal on my heatshield disapates the heat quite well. It's never hot to the touch. Don't knock the ssetup if you have no experience with it. Also, there is TONS of air flowing around the filter. If you would have read my post, you'd know there are a couple outside sources of air feeding the filter. Oh and it's not open on two sides. It's only open on the driver's side.

Make yourself a measuring device. Fine the smallest tubing you can tape an open end of the tube at the desired location, magically run the tube into the car where you make a bend (like an exaggerated sink drain/plumbing)....add a bit of H20 and go for a drive. Suction will lower the water level and pressure will raise it....measured in inches you have pressure in inchesor water which you can convert to inches of mercury or psi(i think it can be converted to that)

To finish off, measure and cut plexiglass, drill every 1/2" and w/ hex sheetmetal screws, screw down. Don't forget to line the top w/ 1/4" weatherstripping, so the box is sealed.
Now you can see in, and marvel at what you've created.
I can do a full write up with pics if needed, cause I've already done this, and it took about 2.5hrs of playing around in my garage.
The box is loud due to resonance of air coming in. Hard to describe.

I would be VERY interested in a "sleeper" look. Sounds like it may be a simular setup to my old stang baffle. If it could be mounted lower it will keep noise levels to a min until WOT which is cool anyway. Cost should also be a factor though, keep it resonable and provide some #'s and you'll do well. I keep watching the progress.
