CV boot repair kit

I watched an Auto Zone video on you tube that mentioned that if you catch the CV Boots before they get too bad and begin to pull apart you can put a CV repair kit on. Saving you money and time. Has anyone ever bought the kit for a 5th generation Maxima? How difficult is it to install and how long do the boots in the kit last?

Thanks

I bought mine off ebay/amazon. 20 something dollars is a rip off. I paid 12 each (with grease) for inner and outer. I'm betting they're all from the same factory in China.

They're simple to replace, but I did have to whack the **** out of it LOL

I replaced the boot on my 2000 last fall, the passenger side. I bought mine through Rock Auto, $12 shipped. It was Beck Arnley brand.

Child_uv_KoRn said it best... "I did have to whack the **** out of it."

I was being too gentle at first, but then I got my 3 pound ball peen and with some brute strength and ignorance, came right apart. Just make sure you're holding the cv joint nice and straight when you are taking it apart and putting it together.

I used a 2x4 to make sure I didn't trash the metal. It's good to know you had to beat the **** out of it, too

If the joints are in good shape replacement boots would be fine, but for the time/cost most just go with replacement axles. On the daughter's 2000 I replaced both outer boots years ago and with 260,000 miles still has the original axles, but the replacement boots are showing their age, but no splits.
Just don't install the split boots.
