Trade up to 2K2?

I went to my dealer today...the same one I bought my 2K1 from...to see about getting into a 2K2. The main reason for thinking about doing this is because even though I love my 2K1 AE, it's very boring to drive (automagic). I really want a 6-speed. That, plus 255 hp, HIDs, etc... Anyway...

I pay $500/mo. for 60 mos. right now for my 2K1. They will pay off my 2K1 and get me into a fully loaded SE 6-speed for $568/mo. for 72 mos. PLUS $1,000 down from me. HA!!!

I guess I don't want a 2K2 THAT bad!!!!

Yeah, especially since I believe you have the best looking Maxima of them all, plus the right color/interior combo. HID is now priced very reasonably, and just add a few performance mods. Depending where you live, stick isnt neccessarily all that much fun.

Yeah...I do love the looks of my AE.
I've also thought of modding it...which I would still probably do even if I got the 2K2. It's only a 10 minute drive to work through light traffic, so a manual isn't going to be a bad thing as far as that's concerned. I'm just thinking about it from the driving enthusiast point of view...you know??

72 months! I did not know that finance terms could go over 60 months. With a 72 month finance term and noting how quickly Maximas depreciate, you would be upside down on your loan for several years. Financially, you made the right choice not getting the 2K2 but I understand the desire for a 6-speed and 255 horses.

Before I got my AE kit, I toyed with trading for a 2K2 until the dealer wanted to rip me a new one on the deal. I bought the AE kit instead with the money I saved on not trading. I could buy a Stillen supercharger and still come out ahead. Something to think about.

In my opinion, the AE looks better than a 2K2. Let the mods begin.

Yes...72 months!! And I had no idea how quickly they depreciated. I figured they would have held their value very nicely. WTF?? Well, at least the dealer was willing to pay off my Max in full in exchange for paying full price for a new one PLUS the $1,000.

How about looking for a used 2K2 6-speed? Wait 6 months and then try searching on www.autotrader.com.

I feel the same as you when I wanted to trade my 01 SE/AE; however, I really like the 6 spd. The only suggestion I would have for you is just to wait until the 2003 comes out that's what my sales person said. Enjoy what you have right now? It's one of the best looking Maxima year.

How'd that happen?

I was talking to my dealer about trading up my 2k2 Auto with the 6spd and given the lower rates now (3.9%) i'm looking at similar or less on the monthly payment over the course of the same period (60mo)

Hmm... then again he took into consideration the extended warranty i have on this one + speaker upgrades + tint + carflector

That's what I'll be doing. Hopefully by the time my birthday comes around (May 25th) I'll be driving a 6-speed.

That's probably a good idea. It would also allow me to make a few payments on the Max and work on getting ride-side up. I do enjoy the looks on my Max, but that's not my biggest conern. I mean...I'm not looking at it when I'm driving it!!! I'd rather be entertained while I'm driving it (6-speed)!!!

Tony you need to try another dealer dude!!!

I financed my 95 max in 98 for 4.5 years and traded up to the 2K2 3 months ago and my monthly payments are the same plus I was a little upside down on my trade-in.

What I'm trying to say is, if I can get the same monthly payment with a 95 to 2K2 trade then a 2K1/AE to a 2K2 should be a much better deal. I thing this dealer is trying to f**k with you.

I contemplated the same thing....

And after considering the following:
No S/C kit available for the 2k2 anytime soon.
The cheesy looking tail lights.
You can save your ca$h, buy a S/C or NOS kit, and give the 2k2s a good race
Not worth it.... wait for the G35 to come out

I went to a different dealer today and got basically the same info. They want $638/mo. for 5 years with nothing down. The other dealer wanted $568/mos. for 6 years plus $1K. Figures.

BTW...I test drove a 6-speed today. Wow.

Tony, you love punishing yourself. Best of luck on whatever your decision may be.

Yes, I love punishing myself!!! But I've made my decision. I like my Max. It's not a manual, but hey, it's an awesome car!! Plus, I'm not paying $8K+ over the next 5 years just to have a newer one than I already have.
