ECM location confusion
For some reason I wanted to believe the SECU was The ECM. Got the two mixed up for some reason even after seeing the locations in the manual.
It's down by the floor in the passenger side of the car.

The ECM (or ECU) is dead center in the car. It is not on the passenger side, just like it is not on the driver's side.
The electrical connector of the ECM is on the right side, accessible from the passenger side footwell.
