AE automatic shifter install question.
AE automatic shifter install question.
uhm, i read the how-to's and it specifies that installation on a 2000, some modifications must be done. but will modifications need to be done on the 2k1?

well, that's what i was referring to.. it says 2000 model in that writeup. i'm wondering if the install would be different on the 2001 or not?

Don't Do It!!!!
DON'T DO IT!
This looks like a plug and play mod, but it is not!
This thing has been a pain in the *** for me. I tried installing the AE **** on my 2K and I thought I would be able to plug and play...well, it doesn't work that way. I ended up sanding and filing away at the little polyurethane stub for 8 hours!!! What did I have to show for it after 8 hours of work? NOTHING! I couldn't get it to fit. After consulting a few other .Org members, I ended up buying a whole new AE shift unit @$190! Total cost: 80 + 190 = $270!
Okay, so I get my phat new AE shift unit. I'm damn near positive I can install it...looks easy. One problem, the bolts on my friggin cat were rusted on! Couldn't get them off for the life of me...
To make a long story short, I gave up and ended up taking it to a shop the last time I had my oil changed and asked them to swap it out for me at a cost of $130. Total cost: 270 + 130 = $400!!!

damn 8 hours, and nothing. then you have to pay for a new shift assembly and labor. dude, that sucks. yeah, i wasn't going to do it, unless it was a direct fit.
the wanted the AE shifter so i could match it with the AE pedals. if i were to get the levoc it wouldn't go with the rest of the interior.
