Still overheating.

I have a 2001 maxima GLE. I recently had a blown radiator and fan. I went ahead and replaced both part and I removed the thermostat since I live in Florida we don’t need it.

I checked all the hoses and there is no leak, This is the second time I buy a antifreeze because the radiator was a bit dry. I am not sure what is the issue. The temperature gauge goes up and down , today the temperature went up and did not come down at all.

Please advise on what could this issue be.

Did you properly pressure test the system?

Did you burp the system properly?

The thermostat could potentially help. It allows the car to run hotter, meaning less fuel to use. Meaning not as much unburnt fuel in the precats.

Well, here is your problem.
There are a number of threads on the subjects. Do a search.
However, in a nutshell:
  • Raise the front of the car, in some/any way, like driving up on a curb/ramp/other.
  • Open the radiator cap.
  • Run the engine until hot, and keep adding radiator fluid as/when needed.
  • When no more bubbles are escaping, do one last "top-off", and close the radiator cap.
  • When the engine cools down, check the coolant level and if needed, add more coolant.
It's not hard, just basic physics.
Good luck!

also check to see if any other hoses are leaking and both fans are turning on or at least the main fan while stopped. There are alot of coolant lines that can leak also. Also install the thermostat first and fill the radiator with antifeeze, Even if air is in the system it should not necessarily cause the car to run hot, but a lack of coolant definety will.

Are you losing coolant since you filled it up last? And yeah, definitely burp it.

Chevy V8s usually run hottor with no thermostat. Don't know if that applies to these cars. Did you try the new radiator and fan before tossing the thermostat?

Leaving out the thermostat won't won't make the VQ run hotter. The ECU and cooling system fans will see to that. I don't know of any reason to run without the thermostat, unless you like slower engine warm-ups.

Good point, but I think you meant to say "unless you don't like slower engine warm-ups".
Of course, in sub-zero temperatures the warm-up could be so slow that the engine never warms up ............ .
