which oil ?

Hello

Just bought 2002 QX 2.0 Maxima, 295K Km
living in Israel and would like to know which oil is recommended
usually using 5W40 full synthetic but as the temperatures in Israel are warmer i"m thinking about 5W50 or 15W50

another thing, is it important to use original air filter ?

thanks for your answers
Oren

Woah, welcome aboard. Never seen a guy from Israel on here. I'd just use what the owners manual says. I have never been around a 4 cyl Maxima so I can't vouch. But I'd probably say 5W-30.

Welcom Oren

Just by googling "VQ20DE oil", I got 2 other forums that discuss using 5w-30 and 10w-30. If you are concerned about the heat affecting viscosity, I would go no higher than 10w-40. 50w is just too much.

thank's

Nissan stop importing Maxima to Israel i think at 2003-4 and they just started this year, probably because of the high tax (110%) and the competition with Volvo Mercedes Audi and BMW that is very popular here.

what about the air filter, is it important to use Nissan or compatible ones are fine ?

Any air filter will do. Just make sure it fits the car. Most stores have a chart that will tell you or you can look online.

QX MAXIMA Pictures

Hello friends.

First of all sorry for not washing before picturing, it's winter time and it's quite cold to wash your car at 14 degrees.

The QX model has no spoiler in the back which i find it giving the car more elegance look.

Just bought the car and made the 15K service + changing the front brake discs to BREMBO and REMSA pads, changed the oil with Liqui moly high tech 5W40 full synthesis, changed the air & oil filters with original ones and passed the yearly test.

i will be glad to hear any comment and get any tips from you.

thank's and enjoy

Oren

Good looking car! It's basically the same thing as the Infiniti I30 here in America but with a smaller V6.

Don't worry about the wash. Mine hasn't had a bath in 6 months or more. It's our family "beater" now.

2 things people over here would do anything for that your car has:
Fog Lights!! I want!
A real handbrake in the console in place of the stupid foot pedal brake I have.

A few other things you might want to do:

FILL YOUR POWER STEERING! That reservoir is half-empty! Check for leaks under the car. Power steering fluid is some corrosive stuff. Eats bushings, motor mounts, etc.

I would highly recommend changing your coolant with OEM fluid if you can. The coolant lubricates the pump. The water pump is no easy job to replace if it fails. I don't see any fluid in the reservoir in that 7th picture.

With that high of mileage, I would flush the brake lines. The fluid looks a little dark in the reservoir. Drill a hole in the top of a bottle. Put a little clean fluid in there. Run a tube from caliper to bottle. Have someone pump the brakes and purge the old fluid out.

You should be able to fix those small things in your driveway for under $30-40USD.

Pull a spark plug just to see how they look, too.

Yes, it is 6 cylinder.
spark plugs changing every 90,000 km.
last week looked under on a lift and no leaks where found.
will drain and change brake fluid as recommended.
also will check the rest and will clean under the hood.
the car had 1 owner and i got all the service history from Nissan so going to keep on schedule...
consumption is 10.8 liter for 100 k"m, not so good.. but also not so bad

That is a little surprising since the combustion chamber volume is smaller. Even our 3.0 and 3.5 liter engines get about the same mileage.
at least I do because I drive in a rural area. City-ish driving is somewhere around 20 miles per gallon. Which is a little under 12 liters per kilometer.

My best in the 3L was 29mpg coming 300 miles out of the mountains. Best with the new 3.5 we got was about 24.3

I have a pretty light foot, though.
