I need to get a remote and key made for my 2000 Maxima. I priced a local locksmith and he wanted more the $200.00 for the keyless remote and chipped key and to program them.
I'm looking for a couple of suggestions to bring that cost down, way down.

 

Don't know about the cost of the keys, but I did have success with replacing my key fobs by ordering some on ebay and reprogramming them myself. It really wasn't too hard and the used FOBs worked great once reprogrammed!

 

Buy some keys onlinehave them cut at the hardware store, buy a com obd2 adapter and the NDS2 software and program them yourself.

All that should be around $100

 

You can get a used remote on eBay and program it yourself. Google the procedure, doesn't require any tools or software. Don't buy keys, just take your existing key to Lowe's or Home Depot. They'll cut and program a new one to match, costs about $75. Not cheap, but a lot less than going to the dealer.

 

didn't know they program car keys. good to know.

 

Just to be clear, you have to buy the key from them. The keys are part of the system they use. They can't program one that you buy on eBay.
