Factory HID or not?

Hey guys I recently bought a 2002 Maxima for a work car and it needs some work. It has aftermarket headlight housings with after market HID bulbs that do not fit the housing at all. The bulbs are H1 and are basically glued in the socket. I do not know if these are HID from the factory or halogen cause everything is so badly rigged up. Are the HID plug and the halogen plug different? The tags on this car claim that it's a GLE but according to the VIN it's a GXE, so maybe it's halogen from the factory. I was wondering if I ordered factory HID headlights with the balast would it fit? Or am I better off just getting new halogen headlights?

IIRC, all 2002 Maximas had factory HID's. Does your car have a leather-wrapped steering wheel? SE's and GLE's did. The GXE did not.

pics may help us help you, but if your vin is a 2002 then at one time the car had them. the original hack may have sold the old set for the aftermarket crud..

but yes if you ordered the proper 2002 replacements for your 2002, you should be fine.

To see what your car was built as, look under the hood. There is a sticker on the firewall on the passenger side. This sticker has the VIN on it and an ID number. The ID number is what you want to look at.

Code:
