P0340 2002 maxima

Car shutting off randomly then hard to start. Have been to dealer with no results. Replaced both cam sensors. Engine harness. Tried a different computer and still the same end result. Could it be a bad phaser??? Or solenoid???? Im fed up with this vehicle

If the starter or battery are weak, the engine doesn't crank over fast enough to generate the signal from the camshaft sensor and you get the code.

car starts fine. Randomly shuts off and then has a hard time starting. Not sure what else could cause a p0340 code.

My car did the same thing for a while, mine was the cam sensors, but I was told it could also be the solenoid. I would definitely try that. Good luck.

Similar ISSUE??? Codes thrown: P0328 (Camshaft Position Sensor), P0340 (Knock Sensor) Symptoms: occasion hard start, random shut off while driving & hard re-start. Replaced Camshaft sensors- Bank 1,2. Car no longer shuts off. Occasional Hard start remains. Car performs good, NO knocks, pings, stall, etc. 0328 cleared, but 0340 remains. Assuming knock sensor code is "Ghost Code" what could be setting it off that also causes hard start. Only using midgrade/high grade fuel.

Please help! I know someone out there in Maxima land had this issue!

When my car had this problem (random shut-off), it was the MAF. After I replaced it it never happened again. However, I had no P0340 or other code.
In addition to the MAF and Cam/Crank sensors, random shut-off could be caused by a bad TPS, or leaks in VIAS/other.

Going by the FSM, if all else fails the camshaft itself might have to be replaced.
