Flattened sections on stock exhaust pipe

Hey guys, I bought an '02 maxima a few weeks ago with a Magnaflow exhaust installed, and the owner provided the stock exhaust as well. After driving around town, the drone around 2k-2.5k RPM around 30-50mph is getting a little unbearable.

I looked on the stock exhaust and there appear to be a few sections of the pipe that are flattened a bit, and I'm wondering if it was made that way, and if it will be of any issue? Here a few pics, and thanks for any advice:

That drone is common with non oem exhausts. I would recommend you stuff the largest resonator you can on your current system. Vibrant makes really good resonators that can reduce or eliminate drone without robbing power.

The flat spots are there from the factory to provide clearance for subframe and brackets.

Thank you for the info, but I think I'll go back to stock. I don't have any performance mods on the car anyway, so I doubt the exhaust adds any significant horsepower gains (if any).

Thank you for the info @Derrick2k2SE!

The cat back won't give any noticeable increase on a stock 02.
There's a little to be had in replacing the Y-pipe and a fair amount to be found in replacing the stock manifolds with headers.
