Engine not starting

I have a 2000 Maxima, original owner with 143,000 miles. The engine is having starting trouble. When starter engages, the engine will turn only for a second, but not fire. Or the starter engages but the engine doesn't turn at all. After a few attempts at this, I tried again an hour later and the engine fired. I drove the car a few miles, and the engine ran fine along with the transmission not showing any abnormalities either.

Turned the engine off and again tried the restart, but the same symptoms persisted. Looking for recommendations from the forum as I also read the threads. Thank you.

I also understand that there are sensors involved, 2 cam and one crank. Unfortunately I do not have any diagnostic codes. Looking for input prior to having the dealer or local garage look at the car.

Your starter is intermittently failing. It will fail solid before too long.

Thank you for your reply. And yes, it is the starter. Mechanic called yesterday afternoon with the news.

this is very misleading and vague, im sorry i highly disagree thats it.

my car turns right off every hot engine start (running errands)

in my case a bad hot start is from a dirty throttle plate.

my cats were fine and 100% intact,
