Hi Friends,
Driving yesterday and descending down a bridge and as I applied the brake and car slowed down,..the car died???
I stopped the car, put it in park and it quickly fired back up. I then put it in drive and drove home. * I noticed the fuel was really low (bout 1/8 tank) and the fuel light was on, but i'm not sure that would have anything to do with it???
This morning i filled the tank and drove it to Autozone and got the codes
What could have caused that random stall-shut down? This is the first time this has happened and i don't want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere.

- p0128 (thermostat)
What could have caused that random stall-shut down? This is the first time this has happened and i don't want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere.
- Any ideas on what this could be?
- Could low fuel be an issue (it was at 1/8 tank and the gas light was on ???)

Yes most likely the fuel .
I had a '97 le sabre that used to that.Fuel was always low when it did.
Depending how steep the grade was,all the fuel might been tilted far enough where the pump couldnt grab it no more.
Could also indicate a failing fuel pump where, or messed up fuel sending unit(your fuel lower than it actually is)
Dirty injectors could also add to the problem. Cars are domino effected.

Agree with wellshii19. More than likely low fuel in the tank coupled with an incline causing the remaining fuel to pool at one end of the tank starving the engine.
Don't let the tank go that low especially if you're in a hilly area.

I don't know bout this guys. I've run low many times, and have a theory that cars get better mileage with less weight (gas in the tank), but i could be wrong. I was coming off a moderate sized bridge (not too many "big bridges" in Fla, UNLESS you are crossing the inter-coastal and i wasn't). POINT is, i've run low before and it's never "gone dead" like that but maybe your right.
Not sure if those codes mean much, p1800 is a VIAS controller that tested working but its old.
HOPEFULLY it was a fluke and won't happen again. (i'm just paranoid i guess).

Clean your injectors,
check the fuel filter. Could also have dirt in the tank then on a bridge dirt will block the strainer/sock and cause stalling as well.

Which fuel injector and fuel filter cleaner do you recommend?
Are they different or can they be the same?

Replacing the fuel filter is easier than cleaning it, just takes patience. Just pick up a can of injector cleaner and look up a video on how to set up a rig to squirt it through.
I had similar situation but with plenty of fuel and on level ground but coming to a slow stop. Did it 2-3 times over a couple of weeks last winter. Cleaned the MAF and I'm unsure if it solved it or not but it hasn't come back.
My fuel pump has been noisy off and on when starting the car over the past few years but never a stall until last winter and it's not always noisy upon startup. After researching Schaeffer neutra 131 I've been putting it in nearly every fuel fill and I'm nearly certain that it completely quiets the pump. A few times I've heard the pump and I'm pretty sure those times were when I had not added the additive.

Not really. You'd have to go Nissan on this because once you take it out you won't find one that fits anywhere in town.
The replacement strainer will NOT fit and do not have the plastic framing inside to support the fuel flow.
You'd have to replace the pump to get the strainer.
For this you need JECs pump from Nissan.

The strainer thing is replaceable, as it fits on bottom of pump. I don't know why someone would do anything other than replace the filter and/or screen.
As to fitment of the strainer, it sure seems that would be doable, and I believe it can be bought as part of the filter as well so....?? I'm not following some comments.

Fix the EGR code before you dump money into any other repairs. EGR system gets clogged in Nissans, clean the valve and if you can clean any pipes as well. you are going to need gaskets. Do one thing at a time and see if there is any improvement.
When EGR is at fault, the ECU may start throwing other codes randomly as well.
It probably won't hurt to run a can of SeaFoam through the tank of gas to clean the injectors.

Cleaning them may not do much.
This is what I thought I could have done.
I found out just replacing them to be the way to go.
Hitachi or Bosch/Unisia is best
If you jump them off only run 10amps at 12V through them . Too many amps could fry the solenoid.

Ok....it did it again, but this time COMPLETELY conked out. I pulled the following codes
p1800
p0345 (pulled twice)
I wonder if its just the VIAS sensor issue or the camshaft position sensors are gone too....???? ALSO, are both the Sensors bad or just one ???

You would get codes for cam and crank sensors, for starters.
If your cam sensors are a toast, you would be in the limp mode.
If your crank sensor is a toast, you won't start.
Deal with the EGR system first.

I see no other codes than the ones i listed above. Why would i deal with the EGR (which i believe is the Air Flow valve....correct) I think that would be a different code. (i think that code is p0100)
p0345 is cam shaft sensor...I would think to change those first...no?
