CV axle used replacement good idea?
Well after 527k my driver side CV axle needs to be replaced. I was thinking going with used OEM from a local place through car-part.com or through ebay. Is this a good idea? Or is there a reputable new/remanufactured brand? I checked raxles as people have suggested them years ago, but they don't make them for the 2000 anymore.

I need to do my passenger side and planning to go to napa after reading about good results from them. I think it's just a gamble no matter where, unless a strong brand that is totally new and not poorly rebuilt.
The ones replaced by a shop that were supposedly good lasted 2yrs. Now I will learn to do it myself if that's all they last. Originals lasted 14yrs until the boots ripped.

Aftermarket are hit and miss, you may get a top quality axle, or a lemon which will cause vibration at HW speed, or not fit at all. I got lucky with an aftermarket axle twice, but over the same time span many forum posts with horror stories.
If you go aftermarket, take your OE shaft with you and compare very carefully before buying to avoid wasted time and problems during and after install.

I would never get used, since you don't know how old or how worn out, why go through trouble. that's why I get new one, unfortunately for some of you guys saying it didn't last longer than two years, mine is going on 5 years now I got Duralast Gold from Autozone. lifetime warranty.

None of the parts stores here in Calgary seem to have Duralast gold. Seeing how long my original cv lasted (still works, but boot is torn), I think that maybe going with a used OEM with a warranty might be the safest option. A brand new OEM cv is $1200CAD. Are there really no other used/remanufacted brands that can be counted on for the maxima?
